Lane Looks Strong at WU InvitePublished by
Salem, OR - The Lane Community College track squads had no need to shake off any rust after a lay off during spring break. They came out firing. Hitting numerous personal bests, the Titans weren't overshadowed by the compeition in one of the largest track meets in the Northwest. Lane swept the pole vault Friday night, with winning marks of 14 feet 11 inches by freshman Scott Elliott and 10 feet six inches by sophomore Mary Vaughn. Freshmen Kim Wilson and Trent Davis jumped their way to winning marks of 36 feet 5.75 inches in the triple and 22 feet eight inches in the long jump to round the event winners for the Titans. Continuing strong performances in the field events were soph Chris Bellitts' runner-up performance in the discus with a mark of 148 feet seven inches, frosh Tauni Powell's second place perfomance in the javelin with a toss of 144 feet eight inches, and soph Tyler Lindgren's third place mark of 174 feet six inches in the hammer throw. Other note worthy performances on the women's side were Rocksi Millers' fifth and sixth place finishes in the hammer and shot put with marks of 136 feet eight inches and 38 feet 10.25 inches, Kim Wilson's sixth place finish in the 100 with a time of 12.85 seconds, Katherine Barnhart and Andrea Gruber's sixth and eight place finishes in the 10,000 with personal best times of 40:21 and 40:34, and Tara Krempley lowering her own school record in the steeplechase by 24 seconds with her seventh place finish in 12:08. Rounding out the men's standouts were Bryan Harper's fourth place finish in the 200 in 22.51 seconds, Spencer Head winning his heat and finishing fifth overall in the 800 in 1:53.79, and Dennis Olstedt running a new personal best in the 110 hurdles of 15.37 and finishing fifth.
